Rain Didn’t Stop Play

Back in January we were contacted by La Charrue; a Dordogne restaurant, holiday complex and campsite that hosts many great music events throughout the summer.  We were really pleased to get the booking because this is a really popular music venue and they’ve built a great outdoor stage and eating/dancing area in their grounds.

Our plan was to start with a few of our Fabulously Vintage songs as guests settled and ate their dinner… and then glide into Motown and Disco as the night progressed.

But then the weather changed. It rained and rained for 4 days (it felt like 40!).  We kept our fingers crossed for sunshine but Friday arrived and still the rain continued.   We  waited for the call to postpone but instead La Charrue told us they never cancel and instead they moved us inside.

Storms and torrential rain continued and we half expected to be singing to ourselves but not at all!  The restaurant filled and folks danced and sang the night away with us.  We genuinely had a wonderful evening.  Folks your enthusiasm and kind words are the fuel that keeps us singing and apparently we will be back again sometime in the future!

Here are some of the kind words that appeared on Facebook after the party…

Breathe In

Tonight we’re back at Etang Vallier Resort, providing music at The Clubhouse beside this very popular lake and holiday park.

When we arrived they told us that they were expecting a full house… as all the tables were booked.  In reality many more folks arrived and more and more tables were installed beside the lake… we were told at the end of the night that perhaps 400 folks had turned up and danced the night away with us!

We installed ourselves in the corner of the deck, not too close to folks that were eating (although in the end all the tables were moved).  We started gently with a few of our Vintage numbers before heading off into party territory.

It wasn’t long before the first couple hit the dance floor and as the evening progressed more and more folks joined them.  The evening was rocking, so much so that we decided to not break our set, but to simply keep singing.

And sing we did… French, Spanish, Dutch, Belgian, British and Polish (at least) all danced and sang together to the fabulous, international music that Motown is.

The dance floor was beyond full! And we had the BEST time!  We love our music and we love it when the audience does too!  We’re back again next month and we hope to repeat the fun!

The Petal Marquee

Today was a joint gig with our friends at REPLAY.  The happy couple had chosen REPLAY-Chilled for their Ceremony and Champagne and then for something a little different they went with The Candies for their party… and because this wedding had it all, they followed us with a disco!

The venue was the very pretty Domaine de Grolhier;  an imposing, 18th century private estate, nestled in the middle of 5 hectares of private land and next to a large migrating bird sanctuary; the lake Grolhier… in the north of the Dordogne.

We were joined, not only by REPLAY, but by George at Photobooths France and also the very talented and lovely people at La Bonne Fete (Dordogne)… and it was their fabulous Petal Marquee that was to be our home for the evening.

Luke and Linzi were the most laid back of couples and their friends and family welcomed us and danced and sang along to our music.  The folks at the Domaine couldn’t have been nicer and even George saved a spot for us in the booth.

If you’re looking for a a more laid back wedding, that is nonetheless fabulous, then maybe you should visit Grolhier… a very special place indeed!

Open Season

The Etang Vallier Resort is a fabulous (huge) holiday resort and spa on the edge of a very lovely village called Brossac in the Charente.  A few weeks ago we were approached by the manager of the Resort Clubhouse and asked if we would like to perform at their re-opening party… and we thought it would be rude not to accept.

The holiday village is spread over many acres and in the centre is a fabulous lake, edged by sandy beaches.  In the summer it’s a hugely popular place to visit and when we arrived yesterday afternoon, in the April sunshine, it felt like a hugely popular place to be in spring too.

The Clubhouse is huge!  There’s a main bar and eating area, which opens into another large hall with a pool table and comfy seating and upstairs they have another huge room.  The bar opens onto a great terrace with views over the lake; its a lovely place wth a great welcome!

They were expecting a large crowd of locals and visitors alike, so we set up in the corner of the main room and waited for folks to arrive… and arrive they did!  The clubhouse was packed… standing room only at the back and lots and lots of people singing and dancing along with The Candies.

It was our first night out with our new set and it was so heart warming to have so many folks loving our songs as much as we do… and great to know that French, Dutch, Spanish and British all seem to love these classic tunes.  We’ve had a few messages sent today; here’s a selection

Great night, great music!

Well done to you all – the music was really good fun and everyone had a great evening! x

What a Night!  Congratulations!

What GREAT FUN!  We had an amazing night!

Best night out we have had for ages! It was brilliant from start to finish but ‘Hey Jude’ was the highlight of the night it had the whole club singing along na nana na!

You ladies were amazing, such a brilliant fun night at Etang Vallier Brossac Club House, Thank you! We danced and sang along all night.

We did have a wonderful evening and we thank everyone for their support and the best news is that Etang Vallier loved us so much they want us back in the summer… so maybe we can have a little al fresco Candies by the lake!

Party Party Party…

We’ve been busy burning the midnight oil just a little this weekend.

First we had a very late night on Saturday, singing and dancing the night away at Domaine D’Essendieras with the very lovely ladies and gents from NEDWA (North East Dordogne Women’s Association) and REPLAY.

Then bright and early on Sunday morning we were off to provide the entertainment for a very special Christmas Fair in the north of the Dordogne; the annual Twilight Christmas findraiser!

Christmas seems to have arrived for the Candies!
