New Beginnings

Last month Lynn dropped a bombshell; she would be retiring from The Candies at the end of September.  It’s true that we’ve had a whirlwind year, starting with our fabulous three days at the Barcelona Yacht show.  We’ve been wowing audiences across France and our music is universally loved across nationalities and generations.  August was crazy; we were approached by an agent who wanted to represent us and we were offered the chance to audition for a gig that would lead to perhaps 30+ bookings a year!  Lynn felt that as life was about to change for The Candies, it was right time for her to hang up her microphone and step out of the spotlight.

So our search began to find a replacement.  We needed not only a great, strong singer, but someone who could sing close harmonies, learn an entire set in 6 months, and be happy to travel wherever the bookings take us.  Lady luck handed us Lora!

Lora trained at The Italia Conti Academy of Performing Arts.  At 17 she secured a job as a dancer in The Spirit of The Dance  and following this was offered a recording contract and went on to record a euro pop album (which took her to lots of weird and wonderful places around the UK and Europe.  She played on the main stage at Brighton Pride to over 20,000 people and also appeared on The Big Breakfast and Night Fever hosted by Suggs.

Following this she continued to work as a performer, as a singer, dancer and choreographer. She worked for QDOS Pantomimes for 4 consecutive years starring opposite Ben Richards (Footballers Wives), Sam Kane (Brookside), The Krankess, Cannon and Ball, John Challiss and Biggins. As a dancer Lora majored in Flamenco and spent many month studying in Andalucia and in London training with some of the World’s best teachers.

The future is looking bright for The Candies…Watch this space… Our first gigs are already in place for January 2018, our diary is starting to fill and The Candies are very very excited about what happens next!

How Far is Too Far?

We play at lots of weddings! When you’re booking a band for a wedding it’s really important that you find musicians who have lots of experience in this area… weddings are wonderful and unique and fabulous and a specialist arena!

We often pick up bookings whilst performing at other weddings (from friends, venues and wedding professionals) and one of the questions we’re asked over and over is how far will you travel? The short answer is… everywhere! The only real consideration is that all associated travel costs will be included in our fee.

As a general guide we’ll drive up to 8 hours from our base… this gets us to the Brittany coast, The Cote d’Azure and into the Spanish Costas. After this we look at flight options; flying from Bergerac or Bordeaux. If we’re flying then we need to consider the cost of PA and equipment hire if there is none at the venue… and we also need to include simple overnight accommodation for three.

Now this might all sound very expensive but actually it’s not. If you’re getting The Candies to travel a long distance then you may as well use us for your entire day, which gives you music from the Champagne to Disco Dancing into the wee small hours… in short all of your musical needs sorted!

Below are a couple of examples of travel costs :

Dordogne to Barcelona
1400km driving costs incl. tolls – 127€ each way
Simple accommodation for 3 people for two nights
Approx Cost 550€

Dordogne to Essex
Flights to Stanstead + onward travel – 200€
PA & Equipment Hire – £199
Simple accommodation for 3 people for two nights
Approx Cost 750€

If you calculate the cost of a disco hire, which lots of folks book for after the band… our travel costs will probably save you money!
